Adding Planner to a Private Channel or Possibly Better Solution

Brass Contributor

If the reason we can't add Planner to a Private Channel is because Planner doesn't have the ability to create a private Plan, could MS Teams give us the ability to create a new type of Channel that allows you to select which members of that Team get assigned to the new Channel? That way the new Channel wouldn't be Private and we would be able to add a Public Plan from Planner to it.

The big issue with the way things are setup now is that Teams are too large and adding a Planner to a Teams Channel sends notifications to everyone and is really cumbersome. But, if we could create a new Channel within a Team that can only have certain Team members assigned to it, that would solve the problem with not being able to add Planner to a Private Channel.

Your thoughts!

Same problem here.  Seems many would want to add specific individuals to different channels within the team.  Also having a problem with Planner not populating for @mentions when the individual is a member of the channel. @dontbeaboot

@Carrie1122 Yeah, that's been an issue for a while now... If you search the forum for @mention you can see a lot of posts regarding the issues.

Here's to hoping the MS Teams developers can overcome the craziness of 2020 and knockout some of these lingering issues and features!

Planner is not supported yet in Private Channel and the reason behind this is that Planner is a Microsoft 365 Group App what means a Group must exist in order to create a Planner Plan. When you create a Private Channel there is not a Group behind the scenes so that's why you cannot add a Planner Plan
