This bug appeared about a year ago after some Office update.
Currently using Word 16.71 on Mac. The app seems to starts new words just before circumflex accents, resulting in typos.
See:
Language is set to French. Only the end of the word "paraît" is underlined. It affects every word with a circumflex accent (or a diaeresis), so you can imagine how bothering this issue is. All my Macs (linked to the same account) are affected.
PowerPoint is not affected.
If the above sentence is written in another app and pasted to word, no typo is detected. In fact, pasting the problematic sentence to another app and back to Word fixes the issue.
So it seems that typing the accent in Word somehow creates a new word.
Any suggestions ?
