OpenAI Connection with Copilot not returning a response

Copper Contributor

I have connected my OpenAI Deployment to Power Virtual Agents (now Copilot) and the Bot was created with the OpenAI Connection and Properties filled in automatically but when the Create Generative Answers node triggers it does not return anything, not even an error. I am stuck at this point and have reached the end of my troubleshooting tools.

I can verify that my OpenAI deployment does return results in the Chat Playground.

I'm hoping there is something obvious that I have not done!

@SharmaNeeraj yes that’s what I used to set this set up initially. I have followed the guide and the connection exists but I am getting no response back when the node is hit.

When I play in the Azure Open AI playground, I get responses.

Some more context around this:

This is using PVA 2 (Copilot Studio). I am trying to connect an Open AI deployment to my bot. There really is no error or trace of really anything happening, which is the problem. I am just inside of Copilot Studio Testing my Copilot with the built in testing chat area seeing that it hits my 'Create generative answers' node, which is connected to Azure OpenAI, and not returning anything. I have also done a network trace here and not found anything of substance.

The data that I have connected to Azure OpenAI is Azure AI Search and the index it is using is the provided Microsoft Hotels sample index.

I have added nodes before and after the Generative answers node to show what's going into it and what's coming out of it and I have added a latency message for the Generative answers node. See screenshots for more details.

@mbuckman

Any luck with getting this to work? I'm in a similar issue. It's connected to OpenAI and I can pull info in the playground and even in the web app, but copilot doesn't pull info from the openAI connection.

Hi, have you managed to find a solution? I am having the same issue too, whereby it is connected and the fields are filled but I do not get a response from my 'generative answers.' I can see that a tick comes on the generative answers box but not answer, and it does work in my chat playground too.

Hi @mbuckman, I have the exact same issue. I just wanted to ask you, have you already managed to solve the problem? Thanks in advance

@Moza_9 I have run into the same issue. The custom copilot runs for a few days, then it dies. I tried to open the OpenAI connector in Power Platform and that hangs up. I feel like there is a issue in the connector.

@chucksalvo I just ran into the same issue. It worked for about a week, and now it is not working. I even tried recreating the connection and connection reference within the solution to no avail.

@mbuckmanHave you resolved this problem? I am encountering it and could not find any documentation or other bug reports related to it. It's hard to figure out why it's not working since it doesn't throw any errors.

I just created a new Custom CoPilot and it resolved itself. Make sure you remove any existing connections first, delete the old copilot and then create a new one. I wasted so much time trying to troubleshoot it and there are no tools available from what I found.
Ours magically started working again after about a month. We had a ticket open with Microsoft, and they were not able to help. They said there were no logs within Power Platform that we could use to determine root cause.

Thanks @chucksalvoAfter removing all the copilots and creating a new one, I turned on the Generative AI, but now the topic 'Conversational Boosting' doesn't even display anymore. Did it happen to you too?

Did you enable it on the copilot? How did you create your new copilot?

Hi @chucksalvo

I'm having trouble setting up Copilot with Azure OpenAI. I tried deploying copilots from Azure AI Studio (image below), but it didn't work in Copilot Studio. So, I deleted everything and started over, but now the "Conversational Boosting" topic isn't showing up when I activate Generative AI. Could this be due to Microsoft's recent updates or because I'm using the free trial?

Have you experienced this issue? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

I just went in and they have changed so much, the Gen AI connection is absolutely buried in there and they are focused on the built-in connectors. I have a feeling the deployment from Azure AI to CoPilot might not be supported for a bit. I would be hesitant to leverage this for production right now based on all the inconsistent behavior.

I've noticed there have been numerous updates in the past week, and it appears that there are still ongoing changes. I'm starting to question the reliability of Copilot Studio at the moment. It might not be the ideal time to develop a bot using it.

Regarding your bot, was it created using Copilot Studio? If so, how well does it perform? If not, what tools did you use to build yours?

Thank you for your response

I have the same issue. I believe it is surely something with Microsoft. I have also deleted several times and recreated. Mine does not create the conversational boosting in copilot studio when i deploy from Azure open AI studio.
