Not so Dark theme

Is there something that can be edited or is an option coming to enable a more contrasting but less harsh theme to MS365 apps and Windows? As I’ve got older I need to turn down brightness because the extremes in the current themes, White, Black, Dark Grey,  are too harsh, but that doesn’t quite achieve what I need. A light grey, giving better contrast than white for those that need it but not so harsh and depressing as the dark versions, would be ideal. We’re lacking options at the light end of the spectrum

You're not alone in wanting a more balanced theme for Office 365 and Windows that strikes a good middle ground between the current high-contrast dark and stark white themes. Many users find the existing Black, Dark Gray, and White themes insufficient for certain visual needs or comfort levels. While the Dark Gray theme provides some relief, it can still be too dark or not contrasting enough.

Microsoft has been attentive to user feedback over the years and often updates their products based on popular demand.

You can suggest or upvote ideas on the Microsoft Feedback Hub or the Microsoft 365 UserVoice platform. If enough users request more theme variations, especially those catering to users with specific visual preferences, Microsoft may add such features.

Stay updated by regularly checking the Microsoft 365 Blog and release notes for new features. Microsoft may introduce more adaptable or gradient-like themes that cater to users who need a balanced contrast.

If you're looking for direct influence, reach out via Feedback within Office apps: File > Feedback > Send a Suggestion. The more input Microsoft receives from its users, the higher the chances they'll consider adding new theme options.
