329 Topics- OneNote - Inserting Code BlocksAre there any plans for a way to format code blocks in OneNote without inserting a 1 column/row table or an ugly print out? The most relevant Google search brings up a post from 2018 where the top answer says its been requested on UserVoice and directs OP there, but 3 years later, still no code block formatting options and Microsoft isn't using UserVoice anymore so I don't where else I can submit feature requests besides this discussion board. Thanks!346KViews20likes25Comments
- Math Assistant in OneNote M365 no longer calculates resultsI’m a mathematics professor in higher education, and I’ve relied heavily on OneNote for Windows 10 — especially its Math Assistant feature — to support my teaching. While we teach at the university level, the mathematics involved is foundational: from basic first-degree equations to partial derivatives of multivariable functions, limits, definite and indefinite integrals, 2D graphing, and inequality plots. This isn’t advanced research mathematics — it’s core material for management and accounting students. In the previous version of OneNote, I could write an equation, click “Math,” and immediately get the final result. That was extremely helpful for classroom demonstrations and student self-checking. In the current version (OneNote M365), the “Math” button still appears, and it does solve simple equations — but it fails to graph more complex functions and is significantly slower than the previous version. Is Microsoft working to restore the ability to calculate final results and draw 2D graphs reliably, as the previous version did? This feature is essential for teaching and productivity. I appreciate any clarification. Best regards, José Maria E. G. Salazar Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração de Lisboa (ISCAL)
- OneNote vs. OneNote for Windows 10I received an email this morning reminding me of the impending end of support for the OneNote for Windows 10 app. As I do periodically when I am reminded about this, I launched the OneNote on Windows (OneNote M365) app and lamented how much less user friendly it is than its doomed cousin. The lack of a "Recent Notes" view is my biggest gripe, but the awkward "pop-over" search comes a close second. The tabs and search result are on an ugly grey background and everything is just slightly too small to read comfortably. Am I the only one?
- Remove "phantom" notebooks from "NOTEBOOKS TO OPEN"Hello I Use Microsoft/Office 365 provide by by education employer. I make extensive use of OneNote with the Notebooks hosted on OneDrive/ Sharepoint servers. This all works well and does what I need. However, when I wish to open an existing NoteBook in the Windows 10/Office 365 desktop client, some of the Notebooks are "phantom" i.e. they don't exist as files on the OneDrive/Sharepoint server. The one thing these notebooks have in common is their notebook location/name: https://<sharepoint server>/ <something else>/^.Document/<one note name> . The presence of the "^" character in the location indicates these Notebooks don't actually exist. Now a guess is they were notebooks I created when trying to understand Onenote - they were deleted - but somehow the link wasn't "cleaned up". Does anyone know 1. Where these "phantom links" are stored and 2. how to delete them so the only notebooks I see in Onenote are ones that actually are hosted on one of my MS365/OneDrive/sharepoint locations? Thanks Clive
- Markdown and OneNote2025 and still no markdown support in OneNote(touch supported version). This is Post ChatGPT era and all the LLMs generate text in markdown format. And I am pretty sure, a lot of people out there nowadays generate quick and concise notes through LLMs. But no, OneNote does not wanna render markdown. However, keeping source formatting can format text somewhere close to LLMs output. But not perfectly. The code snippets and tables does not render and appear as a mess. In simple words, I cannot copy LLM output for "Give me code examples of Rust's thread::spawn() function" directly into OneNote because it will be just appear gibberish. NOTE: There are two types of copying. 1) Select text and copy 2) Dedicated copy button in LLM output. So when I say copy I mean *2 as it preserves the markdown syntax.1.1KViews3likes1Comment
- OneNote web clipper needs a real feedback optionLong ago, the OneNote web clipper had a feedback button and it's still referenced in some support suggestions like https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5339455/onenote-web-clipper-has-stopped-working-again If you are signed in with a Microsoft account rather than an org account (which some of our users do because both Edge and OneNote let you use both org and Microsoft accounts together quite happily and because the OneNote web clipper is used on personal devices as well, not just managed devices where we can be sure the org account is available), there is no feedback button, so you can't tell the Microsoft team that a web page didn't clip properly. Like clipping https://deno.com/blog/updates-from-tc39 in article mode loses a lot of important text from the first list and drops all the headings just because they have anchors on, which strips out important structural information because now you don't have headings between the sections. The web clipper is a key tool for OneNote in orgs but doesn't have a good feedback channel for bringing up web pages where the clipping model needs to be updated. Even longer ago when the clipper was new, every page clipped included a feedback option; it would be nice if that came back as an option you could turn on from either the clipper or the OneNote application so we could submit information more easily.
- OneNote on ios blinking and keyboard goes awayI open OneNote on my iPhone 12, the line at the bottom of the screen blinks over and over and I cannot get the keyboard to come up and stay up. Every time I touch the screen it comes up and then drops back down. Anyone else seen this? Was going to call help desk but thought I’d see if this was also out here in the community. Thanks y’all. Took a video of it too. I’m tapping the screen every time you see the keyboard come up.
- Please add Markdown supportPlease add support for Markdown editing/rendering. EverNote and Boostnote all support this, but OneNote still lacks this feature, while it remains so many developers' main notetaking tool. Take myself as an example, I enjoy its seamless integration with OneDrive and powerful search function, but find it difficult to properly take down coding related notes -- I was forced to format code snippets into monospaced font with shading to make them look like "code snippets". To elaborate the user story about this idea: The user can create a new "regular page" or a "Markdown page". If the latter, then Markdown tags entered are rendered as you type (e.g. #title, >quote, *bold*, `code`...) The user might also enjoy a "cell editing" mode (similar to Jupyter Notebook). So if the cursor is placed in a cell, then it changes to raw text view. And once escaped from this cell, it gets rendered. And maybe enable some Jupyter/VS Code stype shortcut keys, too (Alt+Up/Down to move the cell, Alt+Shift+Up/Down to duplicate the cell, Ctrl+Shift+K to kill a line, etc) This way notetaking will be more efficient/fun, and many developers would thank MS!117KViews205likes73Comments
- Staff notebook in non education tenants? The staff notebook looks like a good solution to manage a team as a teamleader. As a teamleader I have one notebook with a section for every employee. According to the documentation this feature is only available for education licensed customers. However, I have seen that these types of notebooks can also be created in a enterprise subscription. Is this a supported scenario? Can we use the types of notebooks with business and enterprise licenses (e.g. E3) as well? Thanks for any feedback.1.4KViews0likes4Comments
