80 GM mailbox migration from gsuite to Business basic

It is very frequent to receive such queries to migrate big mailboxes on Gsuite to Office 365 with a business basic license. The basic license comes with a 50 GB mailbox size. Challenge is to migrate the big mailbox to office 365 without upgrading the license, due to a costing issue. Kindly provide the steps to do the needful.

Hi @solankig,
When upgrading the license is not an option, you only have one step available:

1. Reduce the size of the source mailbox 

If retaining all mailbox data is a fixed requirement, you must temporarily adjust the licensing:

1. Start with an EXO P2 license which provides a 100GB mailbox
2. Enable an Exchange Online Archive to move old data from the primary mailbox to the archive
   This reduces the size of the primary mailbox 
3. When the primary mailbox reaches a size of fewer than 50 GB you can:
   1. Assign a EXO Archive license
   2. Assign a Microsoft 365 Business Basic license
