Authenticator backup use company account
Just switched phones yesterday and discovered my Authenticator app backs up using a personal Microsoft account instead of my business account. If MFA is required by a business, shouldn't Authenticator be backed up using business accounts? In my opinion, there should be a way to keep business and personal MFA separate within a single app. Outlook does this with my business and personal email accounts...

Kidd_IpThat just verified what I already discovered. Authenticator is backed up using personal accounts only. I have many business users who only use Authenticator for business and don't have nor do they want a personal Microsoft account. It's confusing to them to know when to use which account.
There should be a way to keep your business and personal separate without reduced functionality - in this case, backing up. Some business password managers have this capability already.
- ITGuy337Brass Contributor100% This is just more M$ bs aimed at entangling users so they have no choice but to drink the M$ cool aid.
Again M$, get bent. I can't wait till someone or something takes you down a peg.

It really doesnt help as the backup and restore on the Microsoft Authenticator is fundamentally broken for IT Admin use regardless of the requirement for a personal account for backups. The backup will only work for up to around 60 accounts before it just stops backing up. There is no fix or workaround for this, Microsoft has been aware of it for years and has done nothing. There needs to be either the ability to back up hundreds or even thousands of accounts, either automatically or a one off dump to OneDrive (business) or the ability to do a direct transfer from one device to another like Google Authenticator can do. I have been forced to maintain a second device and duplicate MFA registration on each of them rather than risk losing access to every account I have added in the past 18m or just use insecure SMS.
- Kirk_McCurdyCopper ContributorThis is a problem and MS needs to figure it out. They do not need more billions than they already have. It is not only bad business but horrible policy that you would force the business community to cross pollinate personal and business. It's confusing and irresponsible (I really do hope Microsoft reads these).
Stop it. Stop forcing people to mix their business with personal. I should be able to utilize the account associated with my tenant to be able to backup the MS Authenticator App that I use FOR BUSINESS!!!!!
What I want to know is, when I've wasted my personal account backing up my business Authenticator what account do I use to backup my Authenticator I use for my PERSONAL use? Simply ridiculous and MS can fix it with the swing of probably 2 keystrokes.- ITGuy337Brass ContributorYet they won't. They don't care about you or your experience, they also don;t care about Sysadmins or company owners. Just tricking mom/pop users into $3.95/month of OneDrive storage and making them think the only way to run a computer is to have a Microsoft account. The rest is enterprise of 500 seats plus with E5 licenses, everyone else be damned.
