Mails show as read, even though not read

Two senior people in our organisation have a problem. When emails are addressed to both of them, the email shows 'read' for both, as soon as the one opens it.

I tried everything I could find to solve this issue, but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas / suggestions?

  • Hi Hilda_Steyn

did you check the permissions and delegation in both mailboxes?

  • Read is a state of the item in the mailbox, and is not personal. Hence, this is how it is supposed to work. If you need to have it another way, you might want to consider sending those messages to a distribution group, and having both folks being a member of those distribution groups. That would create other issues though, such as each one having to arrange their mailbox personally and not being able to flag/categorize messages for both of them.

The email is sent to two individual people, each with his/her own mailbox. When person number 1 reads her mail, the mail changes to 'read' in the inbox of person number 2. I know it doesn't make sense, but I have seen it for myself.

Being a Business Analyst, trying to be the chef, cook and bottle washer in a small company - no I have not. I just removed all delegations between the two. Hopefully that will resolve the issue. Thank you so much for giving me direction on this!
