Why do Zip Codes formatted as Zip Codes always display error icon?

First, if the cell is formatted as a 5-digit zip code and I enter a 5-digit zip code, why does it always display the little green triangle error icon in the upper left-hand corner of the cell, saying the error is "number is stored as text"?  Second, I can't figure out if there's a way to have it ignore this error.  Not that important, but always annoying.

If you don't want to see those error triangles:

    • Select File > Options.
    • Select Formulas in the navigation pane on the left.
    • In the 'Error checking rules' section, clear the check box 'Numbers formatted as text or preceded by an apostrophe'.
    • Click OK.

Wow that was fast, thank you! And it works : ) But aren't there times I might want to be alerted that a number is stored as text (aside from the zip code column)? Thanks, Tracy

It's your choice: profiting from the alerts and ignoring them for zip codes, or disabling them altogether.

There is no option to display the error triangles for everything except zip codes.
