When exporting to excel from sharepoint list now after recent server patching I get error message

Recently applied new patches to sharepoint server.  Since patches were completed the function for exporting to excel out of Sharepoint gives an error for every list on Sharepoint and all users.

Will work on a machine that is still on windows 7, but none of the windows 10 machines. 

error message:  "an Unexpected error has occurred.  Changes to your data cannot be saved"
