Sync calendar data to Excel

So at my company we need to be able to schedule appointments very simply, no bells or whistles, just day/time/destination with the person's name and some notes. Outlook Calendar will work for this, or other very simple calendar software. No need for a whole scheduling software package.

Whatever calendar we use, I'd like to synchronize the calendar data to an Excel spreadsheet in some way. I want to be able to manipulate and display the data within Excel to meet other needs -- I could have the spreadsheet show all appointments for that week in a table, or retrieve future appointments for one specific person, etc.

I realize there's plenty of scheduling software out there that would do all of this. But before we go buying software and making people learn it, is there a way to use Outlook Calendar (or something similarly simple) that could just synchronize to Excel? I do not want to export it to Excel; I'd want it to synchronize in real time.
