sorting month-year formats
how do I sort a mmm-yy format where it will sort by month and not the year.

Dates in Excel are just numbers, doesn't matter how do you format them. To sort by months you may use helper column like here https://turbofuture.com/computers/Sort-Dates-By-Month-and-Day-Ignoring-Year or save them as text https://excel.tips.net/T003183_Sorting_Dates_by_Month.html
