Something went wrong? - Forms created on Excel showed no results on Excel

Copper Contributor

I am not sure if thats something about setting on my Excel file or what.

I created an Excel file online using the Microsoft 365, and inserted a Form through it.

When I input responses on the Form, the results could not be showed on my original Excel file,

but then it generated a new Excel file to show the results.

Anyone know what should I do to correct that? Thank you!

It sounds like you have encountered an issue where the form responses are not being automatically linked to your original Excel file in Microsoft 365, and instead, a new Excel file is being generated to store the results. This can happen if the form and the associated results spreadsheet are not properly connected. To resolve this issue, you can follow these steps:

  1. Check Form Settings:
    • Open your original Excel file that contains the form.
    • Make sure you have the Excel file open in the desktop version of Excel, as some features may not be available in the online version.
    • Select the cell or range of cells where you embedded the form.
  2. Review Form Connection:
    • In the Excel desktop version, go to the "Insert" tab on the ribbon.
    • Click on "Forms" and select "Form."
    • If your form is already inserted, make sure it is the same form you used to collect responses. If not, re-insert the form you used to collect responses.
  3. Link Form to Responses:
    • After re-inserting the form, ensure that it is properly linked to the responses sheet in your original Excel file. There should be an option to specify where the responses are stored. Make sure it is pointing to the correct sheet within your original Excel file.
  4. Test the Form:
    • Try submitting a test response to your form to see if it now populates the original Excel file with the results. Check if it is updating the correct sheet in the original file.
  5. Verify Permissions:
    • Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to edit and update the original Excel file.
  6. Check for Updates:
    • Make sure that both Excel and Microsoft Forms are updated to the latest versions. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

By following these steps, you should be able to ensure that the form responses are properly linked to your original Excel file, and the results are stored in the desired location within that file.
