Some excel shortcut key not working (filtering ctrl+shift+L)

Copper Contributor

It seems like some of my Excel shortcut key not working (windows). For example the filtering, after I clicked ctrl +shift+L it seems something is refreshing but no filter applied.

also, formula auto-fill is also not working. Ctrl + d can only down fill one cell.

If certain Excel shortcuts are not working as expected, there are a few general things you can check and try to resolve the issue:

1. Check Keyboard Language and Layout:

  1. Ensure that your keyboard language and layout settings are correct. Sometimes, issues can arise if the keyboard settings are not configured properly.
  2. You can check and adjust this in the Windows Control Panel under "Clock and Region" > "Region and Language" > "Keyboards and Languages" > "Change keyboards..."

2. Add-ins and Macros:

  1. Some Excel add-ins or macros might interfere with default shortcut keys. Check if you have any third-party add-ins or macros that could be causing conflicts.

3. Workbook Specific Issue:

  1. Verify if the issue is specific to the workbook you are working on. Try opening a new workbook and see if the shortcuts work there. If they do, the issue might be with the particular workbook.

4. Excel Options:

  1. Go to "File" > "Options" > "Advanced" in Excel.
  2. Check the "Enable fill handle and cell drag-and-drop" option under the "Editing options" section.
  3. Also, ensure that the "Enable AutoComplete for cell values" option is checked.

5. Filter Issue:

  1. If the filtering shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + L) is not working, try selecting the column header first and then applying the filter. It might be related to the active cell or selection.

6. Restart Excel:

  1. Close and restart Excel to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, temporary glitches can be resolved by restarting the application.

7. Excel Safe Mode:

  1. Try opening Excel in Safe Mode. You can do this by holding the "Ctrl" key while starting Excel. This will disable add-ins, and if the shortcuts work in Safe Mode, it may indicate an issue with an add-in.

8. Windows Updates:

  1. Make sure that your Windows and Excel are both up to date with the latest updates.

9. Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Some third-party software, especially screen capture or keyboard management tools, can interfere with keyboard shortcuts. Try disabling such software temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, there may be a more complex problem, and further investigation may be required. The text and steps were edited with the help of AI.

It's been long since the question is asked but just in case someone else comes here in search of same problem.... If you are using a computer with AMD processor, Ctrl + Shift + L is by default assigned to AMD performance logging. That's why you see something refreshing but filter doesn't work. You will need to remove toggle key assignment from AMD software.
Thanks! That's exactly what helped in my case.
You're genius, that helped like a charm
I suggest you remove this comment, with all my respect to your kind self and the efforts you have thankfully done to write down this comment, actually, this comment is confusing and these steps don't work!

If you installed Internet Download Accelerator on your computer,

Open Internet Download Accelerator,

go to Tools = Options... = User Interface = Hotkeys = Set low speed - Disabled.

Then restart Excel.

Done.

I registered here just so I can thank you, good random person from the internet. I wish your pillow is always on the cold side.
