Shared excel file/teams macro workaround ?

So I know you can’t run macros on a shared document on teams or sharepoint. 

I know if you open the document in teams the macros will not work unless you open the doc on the desktop. 

my question is, if someone on the team open the document in teams and then opens on their desktop to add to the document. If someone else looks at the document in team will it show that it’s open or checked out? 

I want to avoid multiple people opening and editing on the desk top at the same time and losing information. Because I’m assuming if you have it open in the desk top it is not uploading changes to the teams document any longer.
