Protect lines in Excel?

Hi there,

is there a way to keep lines together, such that information assembled in a line cannot accidentally be scrambled?

To make my point clear: I organize data in rather large tables with, e.g. >1000 lines and columns up to AD. Every single line combines information on a certain item. What I want to avoid is that anybody disrupts this association, e.g. by inserting or deleting fields in one column only, or by sorting a single column. Both has happened before and caused a lot of work to fix.

Thanks,

Konrad

    Hi

You can protect the sheet (including a password if required). This is not fool proof but will stop mist users amending the data.

Look up PROTECT SHEET - it should be relatively easy to follow.

    hope this helps.

      Hi Peter,

thanks for your quick reply. I was aware of that option but didn't think it would solve my problem. Just to check: Will users still be able to sort or filter the data? Cause that would be okay with me, as long as they don't mix them up.

      Best,

      Konrad

if you have a PW on then sorting will not work.

Filtering will work but you must remember to tick the AUTOFILTER option (see below) when you protect the sheet.

        Thanks
