MUTIPLICATION ON EXCEL

WHEN I MAKE THE FOLLOWING ON EXCEL 36577,43*1,18% THE REPLY IS 430,48 WHICH IS WRONG

IF I MAKE 36577,43*1,18/100 THE REPLY IS 431,61 WHCH IS CORRECT

HOW COULD IT BE THE FIRST IS WRONG AND THE SECOND CORRECT WITH MY EXCEL 16.69.1 ?

    I suspect that in the first example (wrong result), what appears to be 1.18% is really a reference to a cell whose value is actually between 1.17688694913776% and 1.17691428840134%.

     

    That rounds to 1.18% in appearance because the cell is formatted as Percentage with 2 decimal place.

     

    To confirm, temporarily format the cell as Percentage with 14 decimal places.

     

    If you want 1.18%, do one of the following:

     

    1. Round the calculation in the percentage cell to 4 decimal places.

     

    2. Round the percentage cell reference (X1) in the multiplication expression to 4 decimal places.  For example:  =36577.43*ROUND(X1,4)

     

    We round to 4 decimal places, not 2, because 12.34% is the decimal number 0.1234.
