Microsoft Excel keeps crashing
Microsoft Excel keeps crashing upon opening excel documents. This happens approximately 8 to 10 seconds after opening certain excel workbooks. not all workbooks are affected but over the last few days newly created workbooks are becoming unstable and crashing.
Microsoft Excel was previously uninstalled and reinstalled last week but this has not solved the problem. Even opening in safe mode the documents crash and close down. I followed all the steps in Microsoft's guidance solve the problem - starting in safe mode, disabling add-ons, etc. desperate for any help?

JasonCooper This duplicates a post I just made over at answers.microsoft.com, but it applies to your question.
I had Excel start crashing today while opening .xlsx data logger files. The file would open with the yellow "Enable Editing" bar highlighted, I would click it, click anywhere within the page, then Excel would immediately close. I tried something new - right-clicked on the Excel file and used "Open With". I selected the Chrome browser because it was an option. Chrome immediately prompted me to save the file, so I saved it with "resaved with Chrome" appended to the filename. That solved it.
I just updated my Office files per Tin Zhang's advice - thank you for that. We'll see how it goes.
*** UPDATE *** I still have Excel crashing on half my files, but opening the files with Chrome and resaving the files is working.
