If you are having trouble changing line thickness in Excel, it could be due to a few potential reasons, including a formatting conflict or Excel settings. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Clear Previous Borders

  • Select the cells where you want to change the border thickness.
  • Go to the Home tab.
  • In the Font group, click the Borders dropdown.
  • Select No Border to clear any existing borders that might be causing a conflict.

2. Apply a New Border

  • After clearing the borders, follow these steps to apply a new one with the desired thickness:
    • Select the cells again.
    • Go to the Home tab.
    • In the Font group, click the Borders dropdown.
    • Click on More Borders at the bottom.
    • In the Format Cells dialog that opens, go to the Border tab.
    • Under Style, choose a line thickness.
    • Click on the areas in the Border preview (Left, Right, Top, Bottom) to apply the selected line style.
    • Click OK to apply.

3. Check for Cell Merging

  • If the cells you are working with are merged, it might prevent proper border formatting.
    • Select the cells, and in the Home tab, click on the Merge & Center dropdown.
    • Choose Unmerge Cells and then try changing the border again.

4. Zoom Level and Display

  • Sometimes, the Excel zoom level or screen resolution might make thinner lines hard to see. Try adjusting the zoom to see if the lines appear correctly after applying.

5. Check if Sheet is Protected

  • If the sheet is protected, it might prevent you from making certain formatting changes:
    • Go to the Review tab and click Unprotect Sheet.

6. Test in a New Workbook

  • If none of the above work, try creating a new workbook and testing the border functionality in a new cell. This will help determine if the issue is related to a specific workbook or Excel settings.

These steps should help resolve the issue. Let me know if the problem persists!
