How to recover data from corrupt excel file

Dear community,

All of a sudden, one key excel file I have been working on for months, couldn't be open and the "format or extension" warning popped up. I've been driving me crazy trying to repair it and by now I feel completely helpless. Could anyone help me, please? Any aid, as help will be much appreciated. The file contains important data about my PhD thesis on Parkinson's Disease.
