How to disable auto-refresh in excel when updating the data model

Copper Contributor

When I update the data model in Power Pivot with a new calculated column or a new measure, excel automatically refreshes all the pivot tables in the file. This takes more than 2 minutes per change. How do I disable this feature? I have disabled the 'Refresh this connection on Refresh All' option in connection properties but this only seems to impact refreshing the data model with the source data rather than changes to the data model itself.

I have also tired setting the calculation mode in Power Pivot to manual. But that doesn't seem to stop the model recalculating when I make a change.

Help! This is eating up hours of my day at the moment. Excel 2013 had an option to right click any pivot table and disable auto-refresh but I can't seem to find anything equivalent in the O365 version
