Help with "Help" in Excel

I have to restart my computer in order for "Help" in Excel to come up.  Then it only comes up once.  After that it just says, "Sorry, something went wrong.  Please check you network connection and try again."  I check my network connection and all is well there.  Can anyone help me with "Help"?

The error message you're receiving suggests that there might be a problem with the online help service or its connection. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    1. Check Network Connection: Since you've already checked your network connection and confirmed that it's working correctly, ensure that there are no firewall or proxy settings blocking Excel from accessing online resources. If you are in a corporate network, your IT department might have specific policies in place that affect online connectivity.
    2. Restart Excel: Sometimes, the issue may be temporary. Close Excel, reopen it, and then try using the "Help" feature again.
    3. Check for Updates: Ensure that you have the latest updates and patches for your version of Excel. Sometimes, updating the software can resolve issues with online features.
    4. Use Offline Help: If you're still facing issues with online help, you can switch to offline help, which provides help content that is stored locally on your computer. To do this, go to Excel's options:
      • Click on "Excel" in the top menu bar (on a Mac) or "File" on a Windows PC.
      • Select "Options" (or "Excel Options" on Windows).
      • In the Excel Options window, go to the "Formulas" section.
      • Under "Working with Formulas," uncheck "Show Formula AutoComplete." This will disable the online help feature and switch to offline help.
    5. Clear the Office Cache (For Office 365): If you're using Office 365, you can try clearing the Office cache to potentially resolve issues. Here's how:
      • Close all Office applications.
      • Open the "Terminal" on your Mac.
      • Enter the following command and press Enter: defaults delete com.microsoft.Office OfficeWebAddinUseWebBasedContent
      • Restart Excel and check if the "Help" feature is working.
    6. Reinstall Office (Last Resort): If none of the above steps work, you can consider reinstalling Microsoft Office. Sometimes, a fresh installation can resolve persistent issues.

Remember to back up your important documents and settings before reinstalling Office to avoid data loss.

If the problem still persists after trying these steps, it may be a more complex issue that requires more information from you. Welcome to your Excel discussion space!
