Excel office 365 not opening desktop files

I updated office 365 which also updated excel on 7.23.19. As of today 7.24.19, excel will not open any of my files on my desktop nor the excel files in drop box. Only way to open files would be to open excel, file open, and search for the file I need to open which is time consuming. I would like for my excel files on desk top to open. Excel itself opens but there is no info. It looks like it is trying to load but for the 30+ minutes I waited there was nothing.

Let Office do a repair of itself, that usually fixes it.

By going to Control panel, Programs and features and finding Office in the list and clicking the "Change" button near the top of that same list
