Excel formula to add up info based on attendance over a number of Cycles/Quarters

I would like to calculate how many males attended C1 and C2 separately but cant figure out the formula in excel (where the number one appears in each Cycle indicates they have attended). 
If anyone can help which this would be much appreciated, then I can continue with females and ages etc.
