Excel Error "Fixed objects will move."

Copper Contributor

Hi,

I'm a Help Desk Technician for an MSP in Australia.

One of our clients has contacted us, as when he tries to save an Excel spreadsheet he's been working on. He encounters the error message "Fixed objects will move."

No matter how many times he clicks on "OK", the error message will reappear preventing him from saving his work. We had no option but to force close Excel using Task Manager. From there we were able to save a copy of the file that Excel had saved using it's AutoRecovery feature.

However he encounters the same problem when trying to continue working with this Excel spreadsheet. Researching the error message online suggests checking for the objects Excel is trying to move. We use F5 and search for "objects" but nothing is found, so what exactly is Excel trying to move?

No objects had been imported or pasted into the spreadsheet, he's only been doing manual data entry from referencing the data contained in another spreadsheet. The Excel version in use is Microsoft Excel 2013 (15.0.52670.1000) MSO (15.0.5259.1000) 32-bit. We were unable to replicate the problem with Microsoft Excel 2010 version 14.0.7257.5000 (32-bit).

Kind Regards,

Darren

This what Microsoft calls support?

Let the general public help, as we don't know how to support problems with our own products...

Same issue is persisting office 10, its very serious issue when I am working with filter function and same time this error encountered.

Now if i reopen workbook & now neither filter remove nor any action take place.

As some suggestion suggested like "Ctrl + G> select object>......" not in working.

If any can resolve this, Please do without loss of data.

This is temporary solution for this type of error:

If you notice that A circular reference showing in left side downward of worksheet like "Circular reference AH5834", this reference is your objects location which may be visible or may be hidden with filter (you cannot reach there), if try to reach there than error showing "fixed objects will move".

In that case we have to delete the column reference first without clearing filter, after that clear the filter once error message shows than click on ok, now excel working in normal.

In last If you want that important column than press 2 times ctrl+Z wait for response, again clear filter, click on ok on error message, now you retrieve your original data.

Now you can fixed your problem using function of Ctrl + G > special > Object and delete all objects/ Invalid references save the excel.
