Excel 2016 table won't pivot

Copper Contributor

I think this is probably simple but I'm missing it...

I created a sample table for the data file I want to create a pivot table for and go the report just right with no issues.  But now when I have the real data file ready, I can't get the Insert tab to allow a pivot table (it's greyed).  I don't have blank columns or rows; I have a 1 row heading row.  There are some blank cells here and there but I had same in the sample table...and they aren't cells used in the results.  Sample pivots, real data table will not.  What else can it be?
