Change width worksheet tabs (MAC)

In the new version of excel I can't seem to change the width of my worksheet tabs manually, nor does it automatically resize depending on the name of the tab.

I have some excel files which have many tabs (over 50), which could all fit on screen if the tabs were smaller.
Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

The tab size nowadays is only affected by the length of the name of the sheet.

Doesn't seem to be the case for me...
If you look at the screenshot the tabs are way too wide for its content

@michaelholemans I agree they are too wide, but what happens if you use longer tab names?

They do get wider if the name is longer.
Just wish I could make it shorter haha

Yeah I get that. Not an option obviously.
