Cannot select content of some cells from one worksheet to another with = formula

I have a accounting workbook for our household expenses with a worksheet for each month.  In the NEXT month, I use the = formula to select a cell from the previous month; i.e. In the opening debits cell for May I would enter =, the switch back to the April w/sheet and select the ending figure, and hit enter.

This works for all cells except one.  This cell seems to be locked or blocked for some reason.  The worksheets are not protected.  See my attachment.

    Hi ksmith

Have you tried to manually type in something in the affected cell? It's possible the cell has been formatted as text or custom formatted?

Check the format cells to see if this is the case and then change to general or number.

    Cheers

When I have  the problem worksheet visible, I can select the problem cell (C3) and type into.  However, the problem is when I try to insert the equal = sign  formula in an adjacent cell (KS Debits) then switch back to select the problem cell C3, I cannot select C3.  I have to select an adjacent cell, then scroll up to C3.

I have attached a png file below.

Can you make a copy of the workbook and delete other information that are sensitive and send the sheets having the issue across, so we can go through.

        Cheers

I can manually enter the number.  I have tried protect and un-protect but I don't really understand the instructions on how to un-protect.  If it is protected, it is the only one on the worksheet that is.

You have to unlock the cell if it has been locked. Follow the information on the image below.

Under home tab, go to format [in cells group] and select lock cell.

        Cheers
