Why is there Microsoft Edge (Chromium) for Windows 8.0?

Hello, Windows 8.0 (Build 9200) hasn't had any support for years, but why did a Microsoft Edge (Chromium) build for Windows 8.0 come out?

    If only we could have everyone on Windows 10.  Heck of a nice thought.  In one sense I can understand why you find it surprising to bother with the pre-10s.  But, until nobody is using them anymore, have to be considerate of them.  We do try so hard to urge & encourage people to move to 10.  In time, it will naturally will evolve into Users being on 10, anyway.

    Hi Cortablo, there are still many enterprises and consumers that are using older versions of Windows, such as Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.  We wanted to make sure that we had a modern browser that they could use, and getting it to work on Windows 7 and 8.1 meant that there was little additional work to get it working properly on Windows 8.  Thanks - Elliot
