Edge Icon Display & Search Suggestions

I recently download the new version of Edge (80.0.361.109 (Official build) (64-bit)).  It would be great if you added a switch to turn off suggestions based on Favorites and History.   There is a switch to turn off show me search and site suggestions using my typed characters but it does not turn off suggestions using Favorites.

The new Edge does not display icons correctly.  The icons in my Toolbar do not display correctly.  I have tried changing them to no avail.  They are short cuts to websites.  Icons for programs loaded on my laptop seem to display correctly.

It's implemented in Edge version 83 (Canary channel), Stable channel is currently on version 80, so it has to wait until it reaches 83 and then it will get the same feature.

    more info

however if you want you can try it right now

maybe it will fix your icons problem as well

The fix worked as long as I start Edge by running Edge but does not work if I start Edge by running a website.  Did not fix the Icon problem.

        Edge Canary?

did you remove your old icons ad re-add them on Canary?

could you tell me which method you use to add your icons to taskbar? do you install sites as app or use pin to taskbar?

I fixed the Search problem that only worked when I ran Edge and not when I ran it by starting it by running a website.  I had to change Settings - Apps - Default Apps - Web Browser to be the Canary version.

you didn't use that newly added option in Canary?

because the lack of such option seemed to be your problem..

        edge://settings/search

  • ronha365 Thanks for reaching out, and welcome to our Microsoft Edge Insider's community!

We're sorry to see that you're encountering some issues with those taskbar icons. We'd love to help you with some troubleshooting. If you haven't yet, could you please:

    1. Submit detailed feedback through the browser, along with diagnostic data and/or that picture?
    2. Check if this same thing happens in Beta and Canary? (HotCakeX added a link in their comment)
    3. Try removing the icons from the taskbar and opening their shortcuts? (We're looking to see if it would re-add the shortcuts to the taskbar)

    Thanks,

I sent feedback through the browser and included a picture.  The icon problem happened with the release version and the Canary version.  Not sure what you mean by "Try removing the icons from the taskbar and opening their shortcuts? (We're looking to see if it would re-add the shortcuts to the taskbar)"?  I did drag the icon from the taskbar to the desktop and then ran it from the desktop and then closed it.  No change to icon.

I am talking about the TOOLBAR not the Taskbar.  I have created my own Toolbar and selected it to be displayed.  I did try what HotCakeX suggested using More Tools - Pin to Taskbar and the icon there shows up fine.
