Event details
Join us for two special events where our Planner product team shares what is coming to the new Microsoft Planner.
In our Meet the Makers virtual event on April 3rd, leaders from the Planner product team will talk about the latest on the future of task and work management for Microsoft 365. They will explain how the new Microsoft Planner brings together the simplicity of Microsoft To Do, the collaboration of Microsoft Planner, the power of Microsoft Project for the web - with the intelligence of Microsoft Copilot - into a simple, familiar experience.
Our experts will showcase some of the key new capabilities and improvements of the new experience, including demonstrations on how to leverage Copilot in Planner to create plans, tasks, and goals and get Copilot to answer questions on progress, priorities, workload and more.
On April 4, we will host a special Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA). During the AMA session members of the Planner product team will answer questions directly from the community. This is a great opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have from the recent Meet the Makers event.

- dpettitt1Copper ContributorCan someone who's not in your tenant interact with tasks that you assign?
- TarkanSevilmis
Microsoft
You can add people from outside of your tenant and guest users and assign tasks to them. They will be able to work with the task as regular users. There is additional information here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/guest-access-in-microsoft-planner-cc5d7f96-dced-4da4-ab62-08c72d9759c6
- RichLuskIron ContributorIs Planner Premium included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium?
- NancyatMSFT
Microsoft
No, you would need to separately purchase a Project Plan 1, 3 or 5 license in order to access Planner Premium: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/project/compare-microsoft-project-management-software. If you'd like to try Planner Premium before purchasing you can also start a trial by going to: aka.ms/tryprojectnow. Thanks for the question Rich and I hope this helps! - Biatrice_Ambrosa

It is not. Please check out feature capabilities available across subscriptions here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/project-online-service-description/project-web-service-description.
- KarenAngererCopper ContributorWhat is required to be able to see loop tasks in the new planner? Currently we have tasks by planner, and we have loop, but we don’t see the loop tasks in tasks by planner, which I’m sure is a config thing since we do not allow users to create plans unless they are associated with a team channel. Is that fixed in the new planner or do you except we’ll see more issues if we don’t allow users to create plans outside of channels?
- David_HopkinsFormer EmployeeHi Karen. Loop tasks assigned to you will show in your 'Assigned to me' view in 'My Tasks' in the new Planner. We are also working on making Loop plans available to manage within the new Planner. The new Planner also allows you to work with all your plans that aren't associated with a Teams channel.
- La_PerlaBrass ContributorWill there be any changes to To Do? We are heavy users of it and enjoy the features.
- Luke-PlannerPMFormer EmployeePerla what are the To Do features you care most about that you don't see in the new Planner but would like to? Thanks for the question!
- DavidGordilloOccasional ReaderHow to return users who were manually removed from the group within the New Planner so that they have access to the planner again?
- Biatrice_Ambrosa
Microsoft
As the group owner, you can open the plan in Planner and re-add the user as a member via Share capability. This can also be done via groups page.- DavidGordilloOccasional ReaderHi Biatrice, I tried to do it from the site https://project.microsoft.com but I can't re-add users that were previously removed with the X next to their name from the top right (Group Members), even though they still exist in the original group. When I search for his name, I get other names but not the one I want to recover. From what URL can I do it? (Considering that the only way I have to enter the company is through the browser). Thanks.
- cmdevineCopper ContributorThis is not a question but please please PLEASE!!! incorporate reminders!! The emails get buried in my inbox and I LOVE being able to snooze and remind me again at a later time!! It helps me so much to stay on task!! Without the reminders being integrated into this new system I will have to do double the work as I am doing now and then what is the point for me to use Planner. Please consider adding it. It won't be hurting anyone by having the option! Thank you!
- David_HopkinsFormer EmployeeThanks for the feedback! I'm happy to say that we do have reminders on our backlog for the new Planner. Could you provide more details on what would be needed for reminders to work best for you?
- samirp20Brass Contributorwhere does the data for premium plan is stored, dataverse?
- Biatrice_Ambrosa
Microsoft
Yes, premium plan data is stored in dataverse.
- Sonja76Occasional ReaderWhen will Planner be widely rolled out? I still don't have access even though I have preview turned on.
- AnavSilverman
Microsoft
Thank you for your question. The new Planner is starting to rollout to general availability, it's currently available to a small percentage, and we'll be expanding it's availability over the coming weeks until we reach 100%. If you have access to Teams public preview, you should be able to access the new Planner in Teams now. For more info on the steps for opting in to preview, you can see this blog post
- JBaumannOccasional ReaderTrying to make sure I understand what features are available to whom: will we need to purchase Planner Premium in order to have the Project-esque features like task dependencies? If we currently have a license for the full client version of Project, will that be enough, or is it different licensening?
- Biatrice_Ambrosa
Microsoft
Here is a link to our licensing model and what features are available with what subscription: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/project-online-service-description/project-web-service-description .
- CaseMitchellCopper ContributorComments in a task only get sent to the general shared mailbox. Can this be tailored to have task comments be mailed to only the task participants (like assignees and task originator)? Alternatively, will there be support for @mentions functionality there? The spirit of my question is to narrow the audience of conversation to only relevant people and not all-team or commenting to everybody over the Teams channel.
- Luke-PlannerPMFormer EmployeeHi CaseMitchell - thanks for the question. For Planner basic comments based on Exchange, no the message always goes to the M365 group mailbox. For Planner Premium plans (projects), we do have integration with Teams comments for tasks. They require the plan be added to a Teams channel. While everyone in the channel can see the comments, you can use @ mentions to narrow to a specific audience who you want to receive Teams notifications. Let us know if you have more functionality you care about for task commenting - we'd love continued feedback.
