Event details
If you are stuck in your journey to the cloud -- or have questions about the ins and outs of Windows Autopilot, Microsoft Entra Join (formerly Azure AD Join), policy management -- come ask the experts! This live question-and-answer session with product managers and engineers is all about you - your environment, your endpoints, your scenarios and use cases, your questions. Together, let's triage, troubleshoot, and triumph over those big challenges or little bumps in the road. And, if you love Intune, we want to hear about that, too!
This session is part of the Microsoft Technical Takeoff: Windows + Intune. Add it to your calendar, RSVP for event reminders, and post your questions and comments below! This session will also be recorded and available on demand shortly after conclusion of the live event. |

- RobdeRoosIron ContributorThe issue we still see, like last year, is that most devices arrive in a "unknown-state". With loads of marketingware etc. The fastest way to get those devices to a "known-state" is to image them before enrollment with Autopilot. Any plans on that specific topic? Especially because Windows 11 is officially unsupported by MDT.
- you can order your devices with a clean image, any particular reason you don't do that? you can also use the win32 and script features in intune to uninstall these types of apps. reimaging a device just to remove a handful of apps is a bit overkill
- RobdeRoosIron ContributorThe reason why customers don't do that is the amount of time it takes for those "special orders" to get delivered. That is why customers choose to buy stock devices that are full of marketing tools etc.
- Charlie DobsonIron ContributorIs there a way to setup a free or inexpensive Intune cloud lab for learning how to implement features like Autopilot without disrupting production use?

Thanks for participating in today's Windows. Cloud. Management. Your questions answered! For reference, the panel covered this topic at around 19:10.
- You could start with a dev tenant so you could have a test e5 license. https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/dev-program you could configure the tenant and with it you could enroll a virtual machine with autopilot so you could test it almost for free?
- MartyDueyCopper ContributorIs the M365 E3 sandbox environment time bound, i.e., does it expire after a set amount of time or period of inactivity?
- RobdeRoosIron ContributorWhat is your take on cloud managing devices that are in a factory hall used by multiple users that need to monitor certain processes in the factory or need to create a task for a machine quicly. They don't have time to logon or logoff for instance.
- SigurdWernerIron ContributorThe biggest point here is to decide if it will be a kiosk (generic user) or a Frontline Worker Scenario (personalized user). Intune will bring great Frontline Worker support e.g. for Android tablets

- mattreinhartCopper ContributorWe're seeing a common problem with Autopilot device naming, where is the prefix-{SERIAL} results in a name longer than 15 characters, ~%50 of the time it doesn't truncate and name the device properly, and instead fails and leaves the device with a default name like DEFAULT-#### . MSFT support claims this is a known problem, but offered no workaround or solution. Is this something being actively worked on?
- treestryderIron Contributor
Huh.... is that what has been happening.... I've been meaning to look into that. Though, if Intune showed and exported the Enrollment Profile and/or Group Tag, the PC's name would never matter to us.
- WilliamEllis740Copper ContributorHello! Hope you are doing well. We are having issues in our Intune Environment with our Deployment Profile naming scheme. We Follow a naming scheme similar to (Org-%Serial%) We are finding that the serial number isn't properly being truncated as designed consistently, breaking the naming template entirely. Hearing chatter about this within the Intune community and MS support states they are aware of the issue. Any updates on this? Thanks!

Hi William, I've not heard of this before (I'm not omniscient though and not sure I would want to be). Have you opened a support case for this?
- Jacob_VBrass ContributorThe biggest question I've ran into with customers is the things that take a Microsoft minute. It would be great to have sometimes around when things will execute or how long it will take for things to apply somehow in the portal and not require them to look it up. Will we ever get better ETAs in Intune or is there also a better schedule for Intune Suite customers?

Hi Jacob, This is a great suggestion and one we do talk about internally. We have a fair amount of "to dos" in this area as it can certainly be frustrating when you are waiting for something to complete but have no idea when that will happen. Giving user feedback on this is easier said than done though as we depend on many external services (including third party ones when it comes to non-Windows management) and we usually don't have a signal back from these services either. Making things more responsive in general, give more responsive capabilities or options, and giving better feedback are certainly things we need to work on and are working on although there's nothing specific to share at this time. However, have you seen the recently announced Intune Pivot? This is the tip of the iceberg for things to come. (Note that I don't have a link handy to a session that discussed Intune Pivot but I know there was one or two during Ignite and/or Tech Takeoff.)

Welcome to Windows. Cloud. Management. Your questions answered and the second annual Microsoft Technical Takeoff for Windows + Intune! Have a question? Post here in the Comments so we can help. Let’s make this an active Q&A!
- mjsrcCopper ContributorI'm rather interested in whether copilot will allow us to manage Microsoft security baselines more effectively in Intune. Along with that, are there any plans to rework the security baselines feature? It makes for a rather confusing experience to work on getting security policies in place with so many areas to navigate to. Along with that, there are major features missing from the security baselines area that make it hard to review new baselines such as being able to export the baselines to a json.

- It looks like this session is going to be a good session... deepika, jason, juanita and joe :)... I am here for the comments 🙂
- mlawniczak123Brass ContributorHey Rudy! How much do you suppose Joe can bench press? 😉
- At least more than me 🙂
I want to throw a vote in here for server mamagement over configmgr. From my point of view its important that this scenario needs some attention and it would be nice to see feature investments here from the app managment perspective like its done actually in intune for clients with enterprise app managment. Are there any plans to bring something of that to configmgr? I personally dont have any believe since a longer time that noteable invest goes into configmgr anymore unfortunately (except for very small points so that configmgr doesn't look as a dead product in fact).

Michael-CM Thanks for the feedback, Michael. We don't have any plans to add server management into Intune, but that doesn't mean we never will, if we get enough feedback. Please upvote the feedback that you see related to this at https://aka.ms/IntuneFeedback.
