Word will not open on my Mac

Word has decided it doesn't want to open anymore, perhaps it is depressed. When I click it, or choose a file and right click "open with>>Microsoft word" the icon bounces for about 5 minutes, and then stops, without opening. 

Excel works just fine. 

I have been using Google Sheets, so its ok for me so far actually, good intro to Google products, but still, I pay for this pile of **** and would like to see it actually open.

    Is it always the same file? ... Which does not open.

    Have all of the Office and operating system, updates been carried out?

    Does Word start in a different / new user account?

     

    I'm not a Mac specialist but it would be worth a try ...

    Remove ~ / Library / Containers / com.microsoft.Word / Data / Library / Preferences / com.microsoft.Word.plist in the affected user account (with Word closed, of course).

     

    Then try again.
