Word will be 40 years old on October 25, 2023. Now, A question about object placement.

I have been using Word as long as anyone.

And in the nearly 36 years I have been using Word (and the rest of the Office,) the SAME problems exist that have NEVER been addressed and I would LOVE to know why.

Everyone know that Word is HORRIBLE at placing imported objects.

Place the cursor where you'd like your object to go, import it, and it ends up who knows where. If you're lucky, it will end up a the top or bottom of the current page. Otherwise, it's anyone's guess.

WHY, after almost FOUR DECADES is this still an issue?

Can someone PLEASE help me understand this. Thank you.

  • SpielbergRules I have been using Word since Version 1.0 for DOS

Go to File>Options>Advanced and in the dropdown for "Insert/paste pictures as", select "In line with text"

When you do that, anything that you insert/paste will be inserted at the location of the cursor.

Thank you for that more than instant reply!

That setting you suggested is what I already have, sadly.

It's just that whenever you move or resize them they often go nuts!

I almost always change the wrap to "Through". (That problem still happens sometimes, but maybe I'll set the default to that and see what happens.

      Thank you!

      • SpielbergRules I should have added the text in bold

When you do that it will be inserted at the location of the cursor if it will fit on the current page.  If it won't, it will appear at the top of the next page.

If you then re-size the object, it then may move to the previous page if the size is reduced enough for it to fit, or move to the next page if the size is increased so that it will no longer fit at the bottom of the page.
