Word printing issue
I created a Word file with words, lines, and rectangles (not text boxes). Now I want to lock the file, but also allow data entry into the rectangles, and then print only the data inside the rectangles onto printer output paper. Should I be using text boxes instead? If I should be using text boxes for data entry, can I still lock the file but allow data entry into the text boxes, and how do I tell Word to print only the data within the text boxes onto the printer output paper exactly where the file has the data positioned?

Look at the area on that page about printing into pre-printed forms. This is, in my opinion, one of the most painstaking tasks you will have. I have done it.
You can use Plain Text Content Controls, set to not allow carriage returns, positioned on the page using a table. Once you have these postitioned as you want them, select the entire document and apply a Group Content Control. Then people will only be able to type in the Content Control.

Thank you, Charles, for your prompt response to my posting! This process appears to be more elaborate (and above my technical capability) than I anticipated for a new customer project I am working on. I wonder if we could talk over the phone about the actions that you proposed? Please contact me to discuss this project at email address removed for privacy reasons. Thanks!
