Word printing a random blank page before printing the document (booklet)

I've been having the exact same issue here, and it got worse. It is not printer settings, and my 11x17 booklet fold documents print perfectly fine from Publisher, or Adobe InDesign.
now in addition to random separator pages (which is a problem when printing multiple copies of a booklet), it is not printing half of the pages (will duplex the left hand portion, but not the right - effectively missing half the document).
I do not appear have this (or any!) issue with 8.5x11 booklet fold documents in Word.
this is amazingly frustrating.
Windows 11/Microsoft 365, network (wired) printer.
I really, REALLY need to sort this out quickly, as my other option is having to re-set an entire magazine into a different program, and dump Word altogether!
