Turn off Hardware Acceleration by unchecking Use Hardware Graphics Acceleration in General Options in Word Preferences, and restart Word after deleting the folder /Users/[username]/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/FontCache on your Mac system to reset the font cache.
