problem with table of figures

Hello,

I've been having problems with creating table of figures for some reason the figures are much more that they need to be and some of them are multiplied.

I selected the cross reference button and it shows the same figure caption many times.

Does anyone know how to help me?

Thank you

Kia

    Multiple references in cross-reference dialog?

This indicates that you likely have multiple captions for the same figure. Sometimes this happens when you move the figure and it is actually on top of the caption. These will usually have different numbers.

You can find these by using Selection > Selection Pane from the home tab. Select and delete the excess captions.

You should be using References > Table of Figures for making your Table of Figures, not Cross-Reference.

  • How was the table of figures created? Typically, such a table is built with a TOC field. You can look at the field code (use Alt+F9 or Alt+Fn+F9 if you are running Word for Windows) and see if that gives any clues. Report back what you see.

If you want to, you can share the document, or a representative sample, with the forum, so that we can have a closer look.

Method 1: Force update of the chart catalog
    1. Right-click on the chart catalog and select Update Fields.

    2. In the pop-up window, select:

Update page numbers only (only used when the page numbers change).

Update the entire table of contents.

Method 2: Checking the format of caption labels
    1. Make sure that all diagrams are added by Citation → Insert Note.

    2. Harmonize note label types.

Method 3: Clear the old table of contents and reinsert
    1. Delete the existing chart catalog.

    2. Click Reference → Insert Chart Catalog to regenerate it.

    3. Check in the pop-up window:

The label of the caption matches or not.

The format is consistent with the document style.

    Method 4: Repair document damage
    1. Copy the contents of the new Word document.

    2. Use File → Open → Browse → select the file and click on the lower right corner of the Open drop-down menu → Open and repair.
