Expanding collapsed section when hyperlink is selected
I have a lengthy document that I have used headings in and I have all the headings set to collapse by default. The collapsed level 1 headings become my table of contents, if you will. Within some of these headings sections I have hyperlinks to other sections.
When the document is completely collapsed showing only the highest heading level and a user drills down to a specific lower heading level, there may be a hyperlink to another section for reference. When the user clicks the hyperlink, they are taken to the section that contains the bookmark but that section remains collapsed and leaves the user confused because the section doesn't expand to the bookmark within.
Is it possible to make the section open to the bookmark within no matter how deep it may be?
Michael.
- SamanthaLDBrass ContributorI have a similar issue and would like to know of any work arounds. Ctrl F doesn't work when sections are collapsed, and there is no way to open them all in bulk. And, as you mentioned, clicking on a link in one section doesn't take you to the exact content, just another collapsed section.
I would love to see an option to open all sections or a search option for everything on one page that can search or link inside a collapsed section.SamanthaLD Under normal circumstances, what is the reason for having the headings collapsed.
Instead of collapsing headings, I would use Find>Go To... to go to a particular part of a document.
- SamanthaLDBrass ContributorThe page would be huge and unreadable if I didn't collapse the sections. This way they can be read in a similar way to a table of contents. Even so, there are still a lot of headings. A toc only works when you know what you are looking for. Search works when you have a general idea and want to find keywords.
I used to have this in OneNote, and I'm thinking it might be better to move it back since the search options are better. However, I really would prefer to have everything in one secure location.
redvan22 Can you share a copy of the document (via OneDrive or DropBox) so that we can take a look at the issue.
- redvan22Copper ContributorDoug,
It's a confidential document discussing key processes of my company for training and reference. It has sensitive information within it and it would not be a good idea to share it publicly.
I tried to make the issue as clear as possible but perhaps a similar example document that displays the activity I'm questioning may help?
