Dots issue
I am working on a Microsoft Word document where I have dotted lines ("..................") indicating places for user input. When I start typing an answer, I want the text to replace the dots. Instead, what happens is that the text is inserted before the dots, resulting in something like this: 'x..................' instead of replacing one of the dots. I'm seeking a solution that would allow me to type directly over the dots, making each dot disappear as I type. The Insert key's overwrite function doesn't seem to work for this issue. Additionally, I'd like to avoid using text boxes. Could you propose a solution for this problem?"

Are these lines created with a sequence of periods or perhaps with underline characters or tab leaders?
A simple way to create placeholders for text is to make use of MACROBUTTON fields (which doesn't actually have to run any macros). See https://wordmvp.com/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm.
