Custom Bullets For Checklist

I've created a checklist in Word that is currently using an image

as a bullet for a bulleted list.  I would like to re-create the Pass/Fail bullet in Word using text so that when I create a PDF document from the Word file it will create checkboxes in Adobe Acrobat.  Acrobat does not recognize either the boxes or the text when using an image.  Is this possible in Word?  Here is an example of my checklist and how it want it to look:

  • How about this:

    • Enable the Developer Tab:
      • Go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon.
      • Check the box next to Developer and click OK.
    • Insert Checkboxes:
      • In the Developer tab, click on Check Box Content Control.
      • Place the checkbox where you want it in your checklist.
    • Add Text for Pass/Fail:
      • After inserting the checkbox, type "Pass" or "Fail" next to it as needed.
    • Format the Checklist:
      • Adjust the alignment and spacing to make the checklist visually appealing.
    • Save as PDF:
      • Go to File > Save As and choose PDF as the file format.
      • Ensure that the checkboxes remain interactive in the PDF.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I just tried your suggestion and yes that does put the checkboxes at the beginning of the line similar to what I had posted.  I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to do it as a bulleted list (or something else) so that as I add lines the pass/fail is automatically added.
