Cannot turn off Copilot in MS Word for Windows as "Enable Copilot" is missing...

This is ridiculous.

I have spent over 2 hours trying to turn off Copilot in MS Word O365 version. I am running MS Word in I I Windows 11 (updated) and running what I believe is the most current version.

I have been able to go into Excel => Options and uncheck the "Enable Copilot". I do not see such a box in Powerpoint (thank God - I don't see it in the app at all) and have been able to turn it off on my Mac Office Apps. I have an O365 account.

When I open Word in Windows and then select the Options I get what is displayed below. Do not see the enable coPilot option, but CoPilot is on.

This is ridiculous. I have cleaned the registry and I have seen hacks on how to turn off coPilot by butchering the registry, which I refuse to do.

I even removed the coPolite App.

MS, I DO NOT WANT TO USE AI TO WRITE. How do I get rid of this?

I am EXTREMELY frustrated with this.

Bryan

I don't have a button to disable and our IT Department can't figure out how to remove this AI SLOP trash. Excel has been frequently crashing for no reason since they rolled out the Copilot integration.

I wish this existed in the same version of Word that I am using.  I hate Microsoft, how are two of the same software versions so different. **bleep** this company.

      • Which Microsoft 365 subscription do you have? In a business environment, you may ask the admin / IT support for assistance with turning off Copilot.

I have discoved that AI in almost every type of software where it is in use is correct less than 10% of the time. It's failure rate is magnificent.  This is no less true in Windows. The insult is, however, the Windows consumer is a paying to be it's hostage and cannot ininstall this obnoxious pest as he can most other features. Pathetic.

  • Take this, it appears when in WORD version 2412 or later on Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription (not a work or school account):

Kidd, while it is appreciated that you offer the link...It does not hold valid information. I am on version 2604 and Copilot is not available to choose under File Options. Not sure where to fix this, but not there!

So on M365 Enterprise you cannot disable Copilot on Word? I am also encountering the same issue where the Enable Copilot checkbox is not showing on word. It's showing on Excel but not on PowerPoint either.

      • In business subscriptions, you should be able to activate/deactivate Copilot in the Microsoft 365 Administrator settings.
