Does your client’s document show “Compatibility Mode” in the title bar when opened?
That’s the biggest clue whether the template itself is tripping Word’s layout engine.
If the Avery template shows “Compatibility Mode” in the Word title bar, that means it’s an older .doc format file.
File → Save As → “Word Document (*.docx), This rewrites the file to the modern layout engine.
