sudden slow internet speed on windows 11
recently I updated my windows 10 to windows 11. after that my download speed is suddenly decreased my actual internet speed is 25mbps when I check on the speed test also its showing 25mbps but while downloading on chrome or on Microsoft edge it'll be decreased to around 200kbps and even youtube is also the same. I tried resetting the network adapter. please give me some solution.

I have same windows/pc problem. It occurs on Wired (ethernet) and Wi-Fi connections from one of 3 PCs on my home network.
My Link Speed on Ethernet is 1GBPs from PC to Router (3ft. cable) and ~830MBPs on Wi-fi
My Speed Test on Lenovo X1 Yoga running on Windows 11 Pro is normally:- ~950MBPs Down and ~40MBPs UP on Wired
- ~840MBPs Down and ~40MBPS Up on Wireless
PROBLEM:
- I start my Zoom Client (App) and immediately my speed test results DROP TO:
~5-8 MBPs Down and ~3-4MBPs UP for PC, while link speed stays at 1GBPs. - This happens in both wireless and wired Ethernet adapters.
- Previously Zoom Quality would stay high, but last 3-4 weeks, Zoom quality is lagging and breaking up.
FIX: Quit Zoom Program.
Outcome: Internet Speed Reverts BACK to NORMAL at ~960MBPs Down and 40MBPs Up
I did all of the usual attempts to fix over the last 6 months
- SFC Scannow
- DSIM health check and restore
- Update all drivers
- Uninstall and reinstall drivers
- Uninstall and re-install Zoom, Adapters,
- pulled, replaced and reinserted cables (USB A,B,C; Power Cables, etc)
- Router and Modem Re-boots and restarts
- scrubbed errors in applications, computer and services logs and events
This is driving me crazy and completely unproductive time on fixing this daily!
Microsoft HELP!
- jf-moreiraCopper ContributorInteresting post. I have been noticing some type of throttling in my network card. I already disabled IPv6, , QoS, LLDP, Topology discovery responder and mapper. Then in the driver, i disabled pretty much everything related to Economy, green or low performance or energy saving. I also replaced drivers. Nothing worked.
but ONE thing always works: when I feel there is a delay in the network, like, Youtube starts to lag in videos, I run a quick SPEEDTEST, find out immediately that is not my regular 500mbps (shows something like 120mbps or less), then I disable and re-enable the network adapter.
BINGO, it returns immediately to work fast and in 500mbps. So this problem is driver related or some type of relationship among the driver and Windows 11.
I have a powerful machine, 32gb RAM, Ryzen 9 5600X, GTX 3060ti, etc, so it's not an old rig.
Please, Microsoft...I am not cursing at Windows 11 in forums, I am supporting it but you need to address this.- jf_moreiraCopper Contributor
jf-moreiraI even decided to re-crimp a pair of new cables here when I discovered something: for some odd reason my network card was into DHCP mode. And since I have a Mesh WiFi network (remember, I am using CABLE in this PC), one of the routers for this given Wifi Mesh network is plugged into the same switch as my PC is.
What happened is that my PC requested an automatic IP address and guess who provided the IP and gateway? The Wifi Mesh router. For some reason throughput through it is not as good as a cable directly going into my fiber optic converter switch (duh). I set the IP address on the correct Vlan with the correct gateway and the rest of the afternoon the PC is still a solid 500mbps+ to the Internet.
If anything changes I'll return here but the problem was my infrastructure configuration.

I just upgraded to 1Gbps fiber from Starlink, and after doing speed tests on my main computer, I wasn't getting the speeds my router and laptop (Win 11) were getting. I even went as far as finally setting up the 2.5G network card and switch on my network. Turns out both of the Intel network cards, 1G and 2.5G, had bad Windows-supplied drivers.
The Intel Driver & Support Assistant did not see that the network drivers were outdated, but searching the Network Chip, Intel does have an Ethernet Adapter Complete Driver package at https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/15084/intel-ethernet-adapter-complete-driver-pack.html After unzipping the file run Autorun.exe and Click Install Drivers, Yes to UAC, and Ok to the update. This took me from version 1.1.3.28 to 2.1.1.7. Now my speed tests are as expected with ethernet overhead.

I've been facing this issue on ethernet connection since last update ( 2 or 3 months ago)
Nothing that I did fix the issue. Even tried all workarrounds posted in this thread. W11 is so unstable, actually I uninstalled a driver for audio, since the 3.5mm front connector wasn't working properly. And for this issue, My workarround is running the Gamefirst VI app from asus (my motherboard is an strix asus). It fixes the issue if the applicacion is running. My ethernet connection get fixed
what are W11 beta testers doing on each testing?
The earlier versions were working as expected. I'm wondering if need a downgrade to W10.... - Magnus72Copper Contributor
Same here. New gaming laptop after Win 8.1 running oldie died.
There's a reason why I didn't update for that long.I'm not convinced the heads at Microsoft (and Adobe, Creative Cloud my friends...) actually test their stuff in normal working conditions outside a Powerpoint pitch-perfect presentation involving sweat, tears and joy.
After the update, my somewhat slow net has dropped to the level of domains not reachable etc. No server response basically. DNS updated, have removed McAffee, have removed some App's and limited App data usage... Sligtly better, but far from professionally usable. I'll look up if there's the "Killer" wifi service running somewhere...
I've noticed my Android phone still picks up DNSs and stuff even when the PC doesn't, so I have a suspicion it's not me, it's not the rooter, it is the mess of bad packets etc.Anyways, this is where we end up when everything is run by servers, updates and AI. And that goes for Adobe too. Next time say it out loud - it's not a product, but a half-baked service.
- dcmsndCopper ContributorFinally fixed it. Nothing suggested in this thread helped me. I have changed security protocol inside of my router for wifi from wpa2/wpa to wpa2/wpa3 and it went from 20.00mps to 200 immediately.
Probably, win11 doesnt like older security protocol- cozzy_kCopper Contributor100% fixed my problem, thank you so much. Super easy fix

What works for me was disabling "Network" optimization from Dell Optimizer tools.
I have a Dell Precision with WIndows 11.
I had a drop in connection everytime I would open Microsoft Teams, and it will persist even if I close the app or the web tab (from 400 Mbps to 0.5Mbps).
I tried everything from :
- updating drivers
- updating dock driver (USB connection to my laptop)
- disabling IPV6
- trying with and without AWS VPN
- tried the web app instead of desktop app for Teams
- Windows Update
- Dell Command Update
- Office 325 Update
- trying Wifi 2.4 and 5GHz
- trying direct Ethernet connection from router
Found out there were artificial intelligence from Dell on the network that was "Give maximum bandwith to the conference app I'm using". I disabled the option and my connection was normal again.

Hello, I'm also having Internet download speeds issues on Windows 11, but in my case this is related to USB3 ethernet adapters, when I use WiFi it works great every time.
Here is more https://superuser.com/questions/1729035/slower-internet-speeds-with-usb-ethernet-adapter-than-card-from-motherboard this is driving me nuts... I checked everything I have idea.
- svheldenBrass ContributorMy wife's Galaxy Book started to have the same issue today. It her case it is linked to the power supply.
Connect PS: 200 kbps
Disconnect PS: 90 mbps
Connect PS: 300 kbps
Disconnect PS: 89 mbps

anupbadri Trıed all solution in this entry. Finally find it. If you ever faced with same issue and could not fixed it I hope this will work. I just turned off Bluetooth. And now it works like charm.
- rmowrisCopper ContributorI am running Windows 11 ARM on a Macbook pro M1 16" laptop. Windows 11 upload speed test is 20 times slower than same speed test on the Mac iOS (using Ookla). Mac iOS speed is 236.13 Mbps download and 31.52 Mbps upload. Windows 11 ARM speed is 248.72 download and 0.17 Mbps upload (185 times slower upload). Something is wrong with Windows 11 ARM. Outlook email sending is also slow due to the slow upload issue. Microsoft, please improve Windows 11 ARM upload speed. It is so slow.

Have you found a resolution yet? I have the same issue (occurs both over wired and wireless connections). If I reinstall NIC drivers, speed is restored, but by the next day it has dropped from 170 Mbps to only 10. Each time I reinstall the NIC driver, the internet speed is restored but never lasts.
- maverikvaCopper Contributor
Well, did a clean install of Windows 11 and my speeds dramatically improved to over 200 Mbps. But the slowdown reoccurs requiring me to go into device manager, delete the NIC driver, and reinstalling it. I've gotten it down to a science now and it only takes a few seconds but its still a pain in the arse. Microsoft needs to fix this.
- MJ_MJMJCopper ContributorI dunno. All I did the reset in:
Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network Connections.
After following the troubleshooting there mine was fixed and has been good since. I didn't just reset the NIC card alone.- Reza_AmeriSilver ContributorThank you for the update.
Make sure report this issue using the Feedback Hub app and report this issue and update the Windows and your Network Driver.
- ApodicticCopper ContributorSo i have tried all the solutions listed below. None of them worked for me. Then i just noticed something weird in my network connections. There was a second wifi direct adaptor being shown without any connection to the internet. I disabled it two times and it disappeared. Sadly i couldn't take the screenshot but now my speed is reverted back to original 200 mbps. Cheers!
