NOT ABLE TO INSTALL Windows 11, version 22H2 Insider Preview 10.0.22598.100 (ni_release)
I AM NOT ABLE TO INSTALL THE WINDOW 11, I AM HAVING AN INSTALL ERROR - 0x80070002 EVERY TIME. TRIED EVERYTHING FROM RUNNING WINDOWS TROUBLESHOOTER, STOPPING WINDOWS UPDATE SERVICE AND DELETING THE SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION FOLDER AND STARTING THE WINDOWS UPDATE SERVICE, AND GOING TO THE REGISTRY EDITOR METHOD STILL THE COULDN'T UPDATE MY DEVICE TO THE NEW BUILD.
AND RECENTLY THIS ALSO STARTED COMING.
- Gene DianoskiCopper ContributorI just wanted to let anyone know that turning off Kernel DMA Protection in the BIOS worked for me. I've been frustrated for months trying to get the latest update to run. I tried everything until I ran across this fix. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme 2nd Gen.

Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)
Please download Windows 22H2 Installation Assistant, it's a safe and simple way to update the stable version of Windows, of course this does not apply to the Insider Program

Sm2022540so what I had to do to fix this was remove myself from the preview builds completely then fresh install Windows 11 with the public build. After that I was able to update, but I decided to stay on the stable version.
I think when you have multiple PC's and you use the preview builds, there is confusion on which version is the right one for your pc and it halts installation.
Unfortunate, but I'm much happier not seeing "installation failed" every day.
- Ethan_GarfinkleIron ContributorI fixed this for me already. Same error. Hope this helps.

Same here. Using a Surface Pro 7, so I'm not sure if the Kernel DMA Protection BIOS setting exists on my machine.
- KevinKrazeCopper ContributorI created an issue on feedback hub for this error: https://aka.ms/AAgux0a
- JacocoZACopper ContributorUsing the ISO was only solution and must admit, like the new build but refuses to recommend it with the Windows Update issues experienced since 598.100
- JacocoZACopper ContributorDid few of those, they never answer, except for daily quizing how likely I am to recommend build.

SportingDot I still have this issue when trying to update to build 22610. Currently I am on build 22593.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad and I also had an issue for weeks trying update to version 22H2 Insider Preview 10.0.22598.100. There were two things I did, uninstall Avast AV and turned off Kernal DMA Protection in the BIOS.
- DeletedThank you for your helpful information!
" uninstall Avast AV and turned off Kernal DMA Protection in the BIOS."- Lance_DunfordCopper Contributor
Deleted I’m not certain that it was Avast that was the issue. I do think it was the Kernel DMA Protection in Virtualization that was the underlying issue

SportingDot I had the same problem and it seems that turning on virtualization will fix the problem.
- Ethan_GarfinkleIron ContributorMy pc has the virtualization on and I still get error 0x80070002. Have not tried the latest .200 yet
- jtbworldCopper ContributorSame problem. Just installed Windows 11 Pro from scratch and got:
Version 21H2
OS build 22000.613
Intel(R) Xeon(R) Platinum 8171M - OhThatGuyCopper ContributorI am in the same boat. I have TPM 2.0. It is active in BIOS. I am good to go for installing Windows 11. I have had Windows 11 since it came out. I have tried the Insider Preview build in-place, I have tried making an ISO from UUP dump (created correctly, but states it cannot detect drive size). The only thing I have not done is completely wipe. If it comes down to that, I will just go back to retail and call it a day.
