How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

- careca_777Brass ContributorI am running all 3 pcs i got under the windows insider program, dev build in order to have this feature, someone said it's already in beta, it will soon be in the main channel and available for everyone. So it seems like they heard us.
- Deletedi suggest you keep a watch on the files you download from developer channel and report the unstability issues as soon as possible.

I'm running 23H2 (OS Build 22631.2199) and have uncombined taskbar buttons with labels. It only took MS YEARS to bring back a feature that never should have been eliminated.

Wow! Is it an update we're all going to receive in the next days or still some insider dev beta prelaunch stuff?

I'm afraid I am not a super user and will not be able to access the "new" feature which restores the functionality of "never combine taskbar" until Microsoft releases this to the general user community through a software update. Does anyone know if Microsoft has published an estimated release date for this fix/"feature"?

Hey therehttps://gbwhatsappy.com/
Just had a go at this on my Windows 11 setup. Looks like Microsoft has changed a few things around with the taskbar. I miss the "never combine" option from the previous versions too. Hope they bring it back in future updates. For now, you might need to look for third-party tools or workarounds. Fingers crossed!
Cheers,

I really feel the need to add to the 1,192 Replies in this thread to emphasize the incredible degradation of the taskbar in Windows 11.
Features like: 'never combine items', 'always show all icons in notification area', 'task bar covers multiple rows', 'possibility for custom quick launch' etc. is possible in the add-on ExplorerPatcher, but this week it conflicted with the latest Windows Update and bricked my system by crashing explorer.exe in a loop. Its just a risk i can't take again on a corporate PC.
While i understand not everyone is a power user with 30+ windows open ( hi mom & pop) and the desire to reduce the world to a sleek silver button trumps all, it is completely beyond me that there is no way to customize these functionalities.
Hoping for better in Windows 12.- DeletedKeep calm.
Windows 12 is not even completed yet and the make of windows 12 needs more work than windows 11.
so i kindly request you to wait for windows 12 because windows 12 needs a lot of user's input, suggestions and feedback.
Just imagine one thing like windows 11 and millions of errors again and again in windows 12 and future versions which i do not think we can accept.
Please kindly accept our apologies and wait for a new update and till that time please wait for the new update in the month of September which will bring back many options.
Keep the faith.
Thank you.
- xpatrick22Copper Contributorthis is the most stupid thing ever done by these imbeciles at MS. what is the point of task bar, if you don't show any tasks??? have your brains got filled with environmental friendly crap instead of actual engineering thinking? thank you for pushing more users to apple.
- CarlUnderwoodBrass ContributorYou nailed it! The taskbar should show all the active tasks (or programs) running, AND show how many of each one. It's much too clumsy and slow to hover over the combine button, wait for it to expand, then click the one you want.
I'm a computer consultant, and I've stopped ordering new computers for all my clients since they stopped offering a Windows 10 downgrade, just because of this taskbar issue. I'll resume once they reinstate the never combine mode.- xpatrick22Copper Contributorit is not so fortunate for people like me who needed new laptop and the only choice is this windows "11". and with the wide spreading of wide screen, the taskbar has only gotten wider which means more items could fit. I wonder what bill gate thinks every time when he has to search for his tabs - maybe he uses apple now!

"[ADDED] As noted in our Beta Channel flight here, the settings for never combined mode for the taskbar were showing up under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors but do not enable the experience. We have temporarily removed the settings for this to fix the issue. The feature will be coming to a Beta Channel flight soon."
