How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

So many good things with Windows 11, but this is an absolute disaster for User Experience.
Microsoft, please bring this back! Your user community are willfully breaking their installs of Windows 11 to get around it! That's the only signal you need.
- HCRTechGuyCopper ContributorAs an MSP employee, I regularly have multiple portals going and switching between them using a mouse is sometimes the quickest, most accurate option. In Win11, it adds complexity (and time) to use hover-to-preview to select the correct window.
In Win10 (and 2019, 2016, 8.1, 2012R2, 8.0, 2012...) I used "never combine".
Can you come up with a better option for me to use in Win11 or bring back "never combine"?
Happy to learn a new trick - keyboard, preferably - perhaps "while in Edge, use Ctrl-Alt-[TAB] to switch between only Edge windows"?
I dunno - you're the UI guys. I'm not the GUI guy.- tlhintoqIron ContributorAt this point it seems almost silly having to work this way but...
1 program per virtual desktop. Then you can use cntrl-win-left/right arrow
- DougMastersCopper ContributorIf this is the permanent route they are taking, along with minimizing the contextual menus, ill stick to Windows 10 until its no longer supported and just switch back to Mac.
- RomJamCopper ContributorI'm leaving Win 11 cuz of whole taskbar as I left Win 8 cuz of that Start menu...
I've always made my taskbar look like the Vista's. => Small height of taskbar, adding "quick launch" icons, never combine icons (modding to even break those groups of same apps holding together OMG).
And Start menu of Win 10 is much better. It allows better organization of apps. I want those groups back!
Whole taskbar of Win 11 is ridiculous on super/ultra-wide displays. - kolkrabbiCopper Contributor
Windows Update proposed to install Windows 11 yesterday.
I did it, before I see this new taskbar which is quite unproductive, without the possibility to ungroup buttons and to drag and drop files through the taskbar.
So I've restored Windows 10 and will wait for a clean taskbar before going to Windows 11.Anyone at MS to see the pb?
- andrecopolaCopper ContributorInstalled Explorer Patcher yesterday, so far so good.
- jithinnathCopper Contributorlatest update on 25th Jan 2022 also have not brought back the never combine feature, windows 11 is becoming useless just for this reason, thinking to go back to win 10.
- godfathrofdarkthemesCopper ContributorJust upgraded to Windows 11 this morning. Saw this feature was missing to not combine taskbar icons. Found this thread when searching for how to enable it. Now I'm going back to Windows 10 after finishing this post. Combining icons on the taskbar is very unhelpful and actually irritating as ever. Come on Microsoft. You can do better than this. So disappointed that you are wasting my day like this. Utterly ridiculous.

Without this is impossible to work. How can I make the downgrade to 10?
