How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

Seriously Microsoft. Sure the new look is a nice look. But it is highly impractical to the person who does actual WORK on their computer. To the casual user who wants to leave a zillion windows open and never close them, it's a handy way of organizing. But when I need to rapid fire flip back and forth between multiple word documents, I am constantly frustrated by having to wait with a mouseover and then look on the tiny preview to figure out which was the one I was looking for. It's madness. Seriously Microsoft, just allow users to have the option to "never combine" and we can just use Windows how we want to use Windows. How does that matter to you? If it's an issue that the centered start menu doesn't work so well expanding outward with the taskbar icons with text, you could, oh I don't know, just move the start menu to the left side of the screen like before! Gee, why not just let users customize?
This kind of thing drives me nuts. Provide by default the user new user experience you want to present, and if you have a few die hards who want to use it the old way, just let them have the option to do so. Especially something as fundamental as this.
Do you want to know why I *don't* use Apple's OS? Because of their stupid grouped taskbar, and their unrelenting quest to force everyone to do things "Apple's Way". Microsoft has always offered more customizability and options. That's your strength. Don't lose it. Don't try to be Apple. - Curt_CarconeCopper Contributor
@he lack of this windows 10 feature causes a lack of productivity for me, as I cannot directly open a window of my choice anymore, but have to go to the app, click on it or hover over it, and only then I can start scanning for the window I want to open next.
Actually, that I cannot see my open windows all the time, allowing me to look for the next one I want to use with one eye, while still working in another one is the time consuming part.
By the way, also the lack of having two or three rows for showing open windows is reducing my efficiency of using my apps and their windows.
- madu01Copper ContributorSeveral months on and this simple but crucial feature hasn't been put back yet. What are Microsoft thinking?!
I wonder if they know Windows 11 is used on actual computers - not phones? I have a phone to behave like a phone. I need my computer to behave like a computer. I'm going back to Windows 10 to get desktop functionality back. Taskbar icons, start menu tiles, drag/drop... Why was any of this ever taken away from a desktop operating system? I can't see the take-up by business users being great until MS have a proper word with themselves.

madu01 the forced combination of taskbar buttons has so upset me that i created my account here just so i could add to the comments to bring back ungroup - and faster than this summer please. i too tried to use the new system for a month but it just isn't working -for all the reasons stated by others. MS must beta test this among thousands of its employees, what did they say or did they get overruled? I would try ExplorerPatcher but can't satisfy myself that it doesn't' have embedded malware, just because i don't know how. so, I'm about to start reading up on reverting to Win 10.
- someuser100Copper ContributorPlease bring back the "never combine taskbar buttons" feature. Not having it is quite unproductive.
- Little_JoeBronze ContributorYes, pls vote this within Feedback Hub...
- Sergey_FedorovCopper ContributorNot having this feature is a real dealbreaker for me. I rolled back to windows 10 because this function is gone. Adding another vote to bringing it back.

Well add me to the list of disgusted long time windows users. It's almost as if MS hired a mac developer and they are doing this to F with us. Just awful.

I understand the philosophy of this grouping feature and I love changing my habits to see if there is a better way. I've been trying to work with it for 1 month and sadly it is not working for me ! I think that for a small laptop it makes sense but if you work on big triple screens setup with a lot of browser windows open it is a NIGHTMARE !
I created an account just for this -> please Microsoft bring back this feature !!!
Icing on the cake : some softwares that generate only one window in Win10 are now considered as multiple grouped windows (like paint.net) = hell on earthIcing on the cake 2 : it is now impossible to drag & drop a file through those grouped icons...
- matheuscanelaCopper ContributorPlease get it back asap!

- rodstrcilCopper ContributorI do not understand why Microsoft wants to worsen productivity and user experience. Big disappointment.
