How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
How to let windows 11 "never combine taskbar buttons"?
- The November 2023 update added “never combined” mode on the taskbar for Windows 11. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. It also added a separate setting for turning this feature on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.

- salvrzCopper ContributorAdding another vote to bringing back options for not combining taskbar buttons.
- robinsfrBrass ContributorYeah, this isn't an acceptable functionality regression for me or other frequent computer users who have multiple of the same application open. Until fixed, I will spurn Windows 11.
- DeletedIt will be fixed in the Anniversary update in Summer time,

Deleted What's the link to the article that specifically addresses the never combine option being added back into Windows 11. I've looked and couldn't personally find any credible source that references this specific function being brought back.

In case it isn't in this discussion, here is the link to the Github Explorer Patcher. Downloading this patch and installing it resolved the problem.

KarenGrube OK .. I ran the explorer patcher and it solved the ability to "not Group" taskbar buttons, but the Win 11 widgets appear to be gone and I don't know how to go back to the Win 11 taskbar if I want/need to ?
thanksJack
- DeletedHi Everyone!
Yes, I have been very negative on this thread and I do apologize. Though Edge when moved to a new modern code did have some features gone but they did come back.
If anyone wishes to not use Windows 11, go back to 10 you can actually do a registry trick to get it to stay on 21H1.
I believe that the feedback has been seen and will be added soon 🙂

- AdagioBCopper ContributorAdd me to the list of people who hates this. I'm currently looking at 3rd party software to fix this mistake. Seems like MS keeps trying to make it more difficult to use Windows efficiently. Even the start menu they somehow managed to make it worse than in 10, now it's totally useless. I wouldn't have guessed that they would destroy the taskbar like this
I often have multiple instances of an app open, but this makes it more annoying going to the correct instance- tlhintoqIron ContributorUse the Explorer Patcher as people keep repeating

Whoever decided to remove this obviously doesn't understand the productivity of many open windows and quickly switching back and forth between them. Please bring back "never combine taskbar buttons"

Please bring back the NEVER COMBINE option. It's a headache having all windows always combined.
- cell001ukCopper ContributorNEVER COMBINE, SHOW LABELS. I can't believe this. I'm a software developer and often have multiple instances of my IDE open, and I need to be able to see which window is which. Why on earth do they think crippling basic usability features is a good idea?
- tlhintoqIron ContributorAll of this was coded by foreign outsourcers. And I'm not saying they are bad, or unskilled or any of that. Just that they are not paid like US developers.
I'll bet real US dollars they are all on 15"-17" laptops. Working in a single screen small environment. The idea of a 32" ultra wide as your 2nd & 3rd monitors is a luxury only the ultra wealthy there can even conceive of.
Its just not in their universe of conceivability to think how people with larger monitors even work.

Please let me know when this option is available. I need the "never combine taskbar button" option for my workflow. I am extremely dissatisfied with the removal of this feature.
- Sergey87Copper ContributorDear Microsoft,
Please bring back this feature!
Thank you- DeletedThey are bringing it back in the Anniversary update around Summer time!
