Windows versions on Xeon CPUs
We have a couple of machines with the oddball 'Windows for Workstations' version. This is proving such a nuisance to deal with for various reasons (and we don't need the additional functionality it offers) that I am looking at whether it would be possible to buy a couple of normal W11 Pro retail licenses for them.
The machines have Xeon processors, and I believe that it's a Microsoft stipulation that OEMs have to supply this version of windows on client devices with Xeon processors. But does the same apply to retail versions - i.e. do the terms stipulate that the ordinary Windows Pro cannot be used on Xeon machines?
I've tried to find detailed licensing terms for the various versions of Windows and all I can find is this:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/UseTerms/Retail/Windows/11/UseTerms_Retail_Windows_11_English.htm
Which makes no mention of CPU types at all.
Anyone able to clarify?
Thanks
